Dr. Clifford Peter Goplerud of Iowa City died Sunday, September 9, 2007, at Oaknoll following a lengthy illness. He was 82.

Pete was born in Osage, Iowa, on December 6, 1924. He attended Carleton College and Washington and Lee University. He married Eileen Ehred in 1947, and he graduated from the University of Iowa’s College of Medicine in the following year. Pete served his country in the U.S. Army as a MASH physician in the first year of the war in Korea. Following various other military assignments, he was honorably discharged in 1956 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

When he returned to Iowa City, he joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Iowa Hospitals. His distinguished career as physician and professor spanned more than thirty years, before his retirement in 1991.

Pete led a life devoted his family, dedicated to his profession, and had time in retirement to pursue his love of golf.

Pete is survived by his wife, their four children and their families: C. Peter, his wife Mariette Brodeur, Zoe and Ava; Harry, his wife Dr. Elizabeth Warner, Max and Dana; J. Barton, his wife Leslie Clemenson, Beck, Morgan, Sydney Clemenson and Morgan Clemenson; and Penne and her husband Stephen Taylor. He is also survived by his sister, Dr. E. Jane Goplerud; two sisters-in-law, June Goplerud and Rosemary Nemmers; and by Lynda Goplerud.
